Do We Value Sports too Much?

Sports are a big deal. BIG! Huge! They bring so much joy, entertainment, and occasionally frustration, but they can bring out the best in all of us. Sports give people an outlet to gather around with friends and support their favorite teams. When done right, sports have the ability to teach valuable lessons and even unite different generations. Sports are often an escape for people when they are away from the realities of their daily lives. Yet, it has been estimated that the sports industry generates revenues of hundreds of billions of dollars each year. This has led to the question whether we value sports too much in our society.

Youth sports

Most people would say that sports are a great outlet for young people, and this is true. However, there are still some who disagree with this statement. These people feel that sports take up too much time from young athletes who could be learning other skills or working on other projects instead of focusing on playing their favorite sport every day after school or on the weekends. It’s important for children to have hobbies and interests outside of school so they can develop their creativity and imagination in ways other than just playing games all day long!
