Top 4 runners of the decade

Have you ever thought about who the best runners of our decade have been? It’s a difficult question. If we just look at what runners have dominated at major marathons and championship races, then it would seem that Haile Gebrselassie has been the best runner of our decade. But if we take into account all distance running events including the shorter races you get an entirely different list of names. This blog post will discuss those runners which have made more of an impact than any other on the sport throughout this past decade.

Usain Bolt

Usain Bolt is most definitely one of the best runners of our decade. The Jamaican athlete has won the 100-metre dash in every Olympics he’s competed in since 2008, and holds multiple world records in the event. He’s also a six-time gold medalist in the 200 metre sprint, making him an all-around champion.

Bolt has been recognized as one of the fastest men ever to live, with a top speed of 27.79 mph (44.18 km/h), and his only real competition is himself: he holds every record for both men and women in the 100 metre dash.

Allyson Felix

She has won two Olympic gold medals, seven World Championships, and three World Indoor Championships. She also holds the American record for 200 metres and 400 metres.

She is a five-time Olympian and has competed in the last six Olympic Games. She’s also been ranked number 1 in the world for 100m, 200m, and 400m multiple times by Track & Field News magazine. In fact, she was ranked number 1 for both 100m and 200m for over four years straight from 2009-2012!

Eliud Kipchoge

Kipchoge, who hails from Kenya, has won numerous races and set many records during his career. He is a three-time winner of the Berlin Marathon (2016, 2017, and 2018), a two-time winner of the London Marathon (2016 and 2018), and continues to dominate in other races.

He holds the world record for most consecutive wins at any major marathon event with seven wins at the BMW Berlin Marathon (2016-2021).

Kipchoge has won five medals at World Championships (2015-2018), including two golds (2015-17).

Haile Gebrselassie

Haile Gebrselassie, the most decorated distance runner of all time, has earned his place among the top runners of the decade.

He holds many world records and has won gold medals in several events at both the Olympics and World Championships.

Gebrselassie was born in 1973 in Asella, Ethiopia. He took up running at age 12 and won his first international race when he was just 15 years old. He went on to win golds at three consecutive Olympics (2000, 2004 and 2008), as well as a silver medal at the World Championships in 1995.

In 2007, he set a new marathon world record of 2 hours 3 minutes 2 seconds—the fastest time ever recorded by an athlete over any distance on Earth.
